Accounts, balances, reconciling, property and debts. 10 answers.
Net Worth tab → + → Add Account. Pick the type — checking, savings, credit card, loan, mortgage, brokerage, retirement, cash, vehicle, real estate or a catch-all other asset — and give it a starting balance.
The type is not cosmetic. It decides whether the balance counts as an asset or a debt, whether the account can hold investments, and how it is treated in reports.
Two behaviors worth knowing at the start:
• TRACKED accounts compute their balance from a starting figure plus the transactions since. Enter transactions and the balance keeps itself.
• MANUAL accounts hold whatever you type. Nothing updates them for you; you set the balance when you check it.
Give an account its own icon and color once you have more than a handful — you stop reading a list of similar names and start recognizing a shape.
Investment holdings revalue from live prices. Manual accounts (checking, cash, property) hold the balance you enter — the Accounts view flags any that have gone stale so they're easy to refresh.
Total assets minus total liabilities, including real-estate equity and investment holdings. The trend chart snapshots it over time so you can see the direction, not just today's number.
Yes. Real estate, vehicles and other property are account types, and a mortgage or auto loan can be linked so that each payment moves principal off the balance instead of just leaving the debt sitting there.
A record of what you were worth on a date, so the trend line has real history rather than being recalculated from today's balances. They're taken as you use the app and can be shared with a household.
Yes — open the account and pick one. It is worth doing once you have more than a handful: on the Net Worth tab and in every picker afterwards, you are looking for a shape and a color rather than reading a list of similar names.
It shouldn't, and if it did, the holdings lost their link to the account. Open the account and check the holdings are still listed under it.
This was a real defect and it is fixed — but a database that went through it once may still be carrying the orphans. If the holdings are gone from the account but still in your portfolio, re-link them there.
Open Net Worth and click Reconcile in the toolbar. It puts every account in one sheet so you can sit down with your bank tabs open and make the whole picture true in one pass.
Type what each account really says today. Blank rows are left alone, so doing the three that matter and ignoring the rest is a perfectly good way to use it.
The difference is recorded as a balance adjustment rather than by rewriting anything — every transaction you have already entered stays exactly as it was.
No. It adds one dated balance adjustment for the difference and leaves everything else alone.
That is deliberate: your history is what actually happened, and an app that quietly edited old rows to make a total come out right would be destroying the only record you have. The adjustment is visible, and you can see exactly when and how much.
Once a month is plenty, and it is essentially the whole maintenance routine for an app that isn't linked to a bank.
Reconcile All also records a net-worth snapshot as it applies, which is what puts a point on your trajectory chart — so the habit that keeps your balances honest is the same one that makes the projection worth reading.
