Bill reminders, budget alerts and smart nudges. 3 answers.

What can the app notify me about?

Settings → Notifications, and every one of them is individually switchable:

  • BILL REMINDERS — before something is due, at the lead time you choose.
  • BUDGET ALERTS — when a category is close to its limit, or over it.
  • LOW BALANCE — when the forecast says an account is heading below your buffer.
  • LARGE TRANSACTION — anything over an amount you set.
  • WEEKLY AND MONTHLY REVIEW — a short summary of what happened.
  • SMART INSIGHTS — a subscription that went up, spending well off its usual pattern, a bill that didn't arrive.

Nothing is on by default that you have not agreed to, and turning the whole lot off does not affect anything else in the app.

I'm getting too many notifications.

Settings → Notifications and turn off the categories you do not act on. The usual culprits are budget alerts on categories with small limits, and large-transaction alerts set too low.

If they arrive in a clump rather than being individually wrong, that is the thing to change — one review a week tells you more than nine alerts a day, because nine alerts a day become wallpaper.

What is the Weekly or Monthly Review?

A short read-through of what actually happened: what you spent against plan, what moved most, what is coming up, and anything that looks unlike your normal month.

It is the one notification worth leaving on if you turn everything else off, because it is the only one that asks for a couple of minutes rather than a reaction.
