Fin

The on-device assistant β€” what it can and can't answer.

What is Fin, and does it send my data anywhere?

Fin is the assistant behind the robot icon. It runs ON YOUR DEVICE using Apple Intelligence and answers from your real numbers.

Nothing you ask leaves your phone. Nothing it reads leaves your phone. There is no request to a server, ours or anybody else's β€” which is also why it still works with no signal.

It reads the same data the screens do β€” accounts, transactions, budgets, bills, forecast and plan β€” and it is bound by the same rules: business money stays out of personal answers, and anything you keep private stays private.

What is Fin good at β€” and what isn't it?

GOOD AT the questions your screens answer slowly: β€œwill I make it to payday?”, β€œhow much can I safely spend?”, β€œwhat are my subscriptions?”, β€œdid any go up?”, β€œwhat did I spend on dining last month?”, β€œhow am I doing?”. It reads your live figures, so the answer is yours rather than general advice.

NOT GOOD AT anything needing the outside world β€” it cannot look up a price it hasn't been given, quote tax law, or tell you what a bank charges. It is not a financial adviser and it will not tell you what to buy.

And it can only answer from what you have entered. If your recurring bills are not in the app it cannot know what is coming, and it says so rather than guessing.

What can I actually ask Fin?

Plain questions about your own money. Some that work well:

  • β€œWill I make it to payday?”
  • β€œHow much can I safely spend today?”
  • β€œWhat are my subscriptions, and did any go up?”
  • β€œWhat did I spend on dining last month?”
  • β€œHow am I doing?” β€” it reads your health score and says which pillar is weakest.
  • β€œWhat is my net worth?” and β€œhow has it moved this year?”
  • β€œAm I balanced?” β€” your investment allocation against your target.

If it doesn't understand, rephrase around the VERB β€” β€œwhat did I spend” and β€œwhat can I spend” are different questions and it treats them that way.

Fin gave me an answer I don't believe. What now?

Check it against the screen it came from β€” Fin reads the same figures you can see, so if the two disagree, one of them is a bug worth reporting.

Most surprises are scope rather than arithmetic: business money is excluded from personal answers, a split contributes only its share, and a transfer between your own accounts is neither income nor spending. β€œHow the numbers work” in this help center walks through all four rules.

If it still looks wrong, send it through Talk to the developer β€” pick β€œSomething's broken” β€” with the question you asked and the answer you expected. The question itself is the most useful part.
